Vegetation Removal

  • Mechanical and manual operations
  • Do not need to go intrusive
  • Cleanly remove and masticate
    vegetation at desired height
  • Allows for visual ID of MPPEH
 !  The First Step

The first step in all Range Remediation efforts is site preparation. Vegetation removal and visual identification of MPPEH (Material Potentially Presenting Explosive Hazard) must take place prior to removal activities in order to determine the extent of contamination. In order for removal personnel to carry out their duties, they must be able to move freely and have unrestricted view of the ground. If shrub cover is removed down to 6" - 12' above ground surface (AGS), OE detection work can be accomplished.

A vegetation removal method that causes a minimum of environmental impact should be chosen. Site specific and safety considerations govern the choice of equipment and approach to each task. The use of armored equipment allows TES to utilize the most appropriate methods while ensuring protection of operating personnel should an unintentional detonation occur.

Mechanical/Armored

T.A.Z. (Tractor-Accessorized Zerriest) I & II

  • Low PSI
  • Can operate in tight quarters
  • Can operate on slopes to 65%
  • Armored to survive unintentional
detonation of 75mm HE (T.A.Z. II)
  • Grinds trees up to 18" in diameter

Manual Clearance

  • In areas inaccessible to larger
    equipment, manual crews can be
    utilized for targeted vegetation removal
  • In areas of extreme environmental
sensitivity, manual crews can be used
    for low impact operations
  • Using chainsaws, weed eaters and
    billygoats, manual crews clear
    designated areas with ease

MAMTA

Mechanical Assisted
Manual Team Approach
  • Manual and mechanical teams, unilizing
    specialized equipment such as the
TES custom Bobcat, can work in tandem
for faster clearing of sensitive areas
